sandwiches!
Despite the fact that we here in America find ourselves swept up in the midst of the presidential campaign season, the sandwich party is apolitical. Elsa and I decided people need to rally around something and why not let it be sandwiches? I mean, who doesn’t like a sandwich?
This page is where I’ll try to keep up with Sandwich Party activities. I will fail of course. There’s a running list of sandwich-related silliness at the bottom of this page.
NOVEMBER 27-29, 2009
- Here’s Cynthia’s recommendation: “My sister put a simple spin on the grilled cheese. Brush bread with olive oil, sprinkle on oregano, use three cheese mixture and finish with a light sprinkling of garlic powder. Simply delightful.”
- Simon gives us “Two simple but honest, blokey, British cheese sandwiches.” I am including them despite the fact that he used the word “mouthfeel.”
- Meanwhile, Erik can has cheezburger even though he lives in Spain.
- John is denied both sandwich parity and a decent “hamburger sandwich.”
- Maven makes a delicious-looking Quorn roast, sliced, with vegannaise and sambal oelek and avocado sandwich on toasted wheat bread and washes it down with what “appears to be fancy hippie soda for assholes.”
- I had a grilled cheddar and provolone on sourdough from a local establishment. Tasty!
- Frederique gives us “the Chocolate Macaron Ice Cream Sandwich: tiny, decadent, and absolutely delicious.”
- Elli had a “chicken, avocado, and cheese sandwich from the local bakery, gussied up by me with Thomy Scharfer Senf and a little onion.” Tasty and so pretty!
- Sparkdance contributes a delicious-sounding and looking gluten-free alternative with arepa, fried plantains, avocado, and guayanes cheese.
- And finally, Elsa made a quesadilla sandwich “of smashed sweet potatoes (leftover from Thanksgiving) with Parmesan on sandwiched between, I say! a halved whole wheat tortilla, generously seasoned inside and out with cumin and chili powder and grilled to a toasty brown.” She also ” slapped together a sandwich of crunchy, nutty, all-natural hippie-dippie peanut butter between the two crispy cookies.” Cookies with (plain) M&Ms instead of chocolate chips, FYI.
- But wait! There’s more! Carla Rey made “a luscious scrambled egg and pepperoni, on challah, with cheddar.” Photographed on the work table in her studio.”
APRIL 3-5, 2009
- Simon does Belgian Baguette Bonanza.
- Elsa brings us the fluffernutter.
- Isoglossia seems to have consumed a Polish breakfast sandwich. We’re standing by for more information.
- Andrea made–wait for it–a pancake and peanut butter sandwich. I love this more than I can say.
- I went the rye, swiss cheese, pastrami, ham, onion, bacon, and dijonnaise route.
- Elli made an ice cream sandwich, and when I say made I mean she made the ice cream too.
- Gourdshaped gives us the “1-2-3-DAMMIT” and “toasted baguette topped with olive oil, minced garlic, tomato, onion, and those little dots are basil, salt and pepper, and not wood ticks.”
- Faith offers her recipe for the BLAT: “Turkey bacon, lettuce, avocado & tomato on toasted Ezekiel Bread. Yum.”
- And Elsa closed out the weekend with The Rise of the Machines.
JULY 25-27ish, 2008
There’s a Flickr group now! And a Sandwich Party button!
- Simon: Sandwich Party 2: Focaccia-cha-cha: It’s all about the bread this time.
- Ogre recommends the lasagna sandwich, which has the following ingredients: one bread-sized cube of cold baked lasagna, 2 slices of bread, and more mayonnaise than is wise or necessary.
- Tom says of his pineapple slice, mayonnaise, lettuce, and bread sandwich, “I remember eating this as a child, and my brother who lives in Alabama said that he has seen some of his employees bring this sandwich to work for lunch.”
- Elsa leads in both sandwiches and clever names with The Black Velvet Elvis and The Iron Maiden.
- Erik brings us Voice of a Pork Sandwich, with video!
- My sandwich was made from the following: nectarine, cherries, green gage plum, cantaloupe, cilantro and salt and pepper organic cheddar cheese from Fields of Grace Farm.
- sgazzetti brings us Canonical sandwichery. “You should not make this sandwich. There are dozens upon dozens of sketchy little corner stores between here and the beach that do little else but turn out these sandwiches. Pick them up on the way. Don’t run around trying to find all the ingredients yourself. It’s not worth the hassle. Well, sometimes it is.”
- Elli made a tuna sandwich, inspired by the desire to get rid of the canned goods she carried on her many travels across Australia. She seems a bit underwhelmed by her own effort but I think tuna sandwiches are magnificent. So there.
- From Bushgeek we get the Minimalistic Sandwich with Ambience: Tuna with tandoori red onion and garlic on seaweed rice cracker. baby lettuce leaf garnished with tomato and cucumber splits, finished with finely ground parmesan.
- Bella sometimes dreams about sandwiches. I can get behind that, especially when it involves avocado, bacon, mushrooms, and dijonnaise.
- Tracy recommends, among other things, this, which I must try: “Cream Cheese Peanut Butter & Jelly sandwich–2 slices soft white bread; spread peanut butter of choice, then softened cream cheese; add jelly or preserves of choice.”
- Maven brings us a beet sandwich, but it’s so much more than that: “It’s a beet sandwich. The bread is green olive batard, which is just what I happened to have. Add blue cheese made locally, arugula grown by your mom’s cousin, and sliced roasted beets also grown by your mom’s cousin but roasted by you. Top with more blue cheese and walnuts.”
- Tina shared this sure-to-be robust sandwich: Sharp cheddar cheese and sliced pickles with plenty of yellow mustard on rye bread with dill. She also provided some gratuitous sandwichery a few days later.
- Andrea brings us Sisterhood of the Traveling Sandwich II: marble rye, roasted red pepper hummus, olive tapenade, tomatoes, sliced cucumbers, provolone cheese, and some iceberg lettuce (for crunch), and don’t forget the pickle.
- Marigoldie filed for an extension, which has of course been granted This just in from Marigoldie: Extra firm tofu, crumbled and mashed with minced onions, shredded carrots, vegan mayo, dijon mustard, a healthy sprinkling of dill, and a dash of Bragg’s Liquid Aminos; California sprouted bread, whole wheat; a couple of artichoke hearts; some fresh basil leaves, for color mostly; Zapp’s cajun dill potato chips on the side and the inside; a few wedges of red grapefruit; a cool glass of Power-C Vitamin Water.
- Gwen is late to the party but claims a litany of excuses. All is forgiven for the wack-a-mole cheese. That is, if there were anything to forgive. We are a laid back bunch here at Sandwich Party HQ.

- marigoldie’s site is password protected so I’ll share this from her sandwich post: “I shredded up some Follow Your Heart fake cheddar, chopped up a huuuuge pimiento, a few tablespoons of fake mayo, some chopped green onion, a sprinkle of cayenne and that was that. I followed Jag’s recipe to the T, except for using vegan alternatives. Then I grilled my sandwich on Ezekiel sprouted sunflower bread with light Earth Balance. It was goooood. I had it with some salt & pepper Kettle chips and a salad. And then I carried it over to the couch and watched the Simpsons with it.”
- Gaoo doesn’t have a blog but made “a yummy, easy, empty fridge, hit-the-spot little snacky samwich the other day. Take corn tortillas, the authentic small tough ones with limey mineral taste. We always have these because they keep in the fridge for months. Toss in frying pan with olive oil til they are blistered on both sides. Smear with refried beans right out of the can. Top with grated sharp cheddar. Put in hot oven for a few minutes til the cheese melts. Could probably leave them in the frying pan with the lid on too. Then top with a handful of greens. I had “herb salad mix” but anything will do. Top with salsa. Yum! Hot melty, cold crunchy, oily, spicy.”
- NotMyAndrea beats herself up for not eating a sandwich this weekend. I think I speak for all of us when I say that she’s a complete loser.
- Tina: Better late than never (the sammich post)
- AMGS: berry break sandie
- carlarey: A fish stick sandwich and a terrifying snowman.
