All this recent talk of pim(i)ento cheese has caused Elsa and me to decided we need to try to engineer some more Peculiar Blog Community Behavior and start something called a Sandwich Party! (exclamation mark optional)

Because we are both on the east coast of the US (I think she is; I know I am.), you may think this is some east coast liberal conspiracy to, uh, force people to … make sandwiches.

WELL IT IS.

Elsa describes this much better than I do so I’ll quote her:

No RSVP needed, just show up! Here’s how:

Anytime on December 7th, 8th, or 9th, 2007 (that’s Friday, Saturday, and Sunday of next week), you eat a sandwich and post an entry about it on your site. Tell us what kind of sandwich you’ve made (or ordered, sure, why not?), and something about it. Write the recipe, take some photos of the sandwich, or, hey, tell us how your grampa or your old boss or your crazy neighbor’s little kid used to make this sandwich.

When your entry is posted, leave a comment for me here linking back to the URL.

Over the weekend, I’ll post a round-up linking to all the sandwich postings, and follow it up a day or two later, just to be sure we catch the late postings.

We can hardly wait to see what you decide to serve.

We’re sort of winging it here so we’re not sure how this will go. After I post this, I’m going to email some of you and nag you about participating.

OK…….I think I can handle this level of food preparation!

  2. jagosaurus on 12.01.2007

    Leslie: See? No pressure.

  3. Elsa on 12.01.2007

That was kinda the idea: we figured that almost everyone could handle making a sandwich. If not, there’s no prohibition against getting take-out, or — heck — tearing open a box of ice cream sandwiches.

  4. jagosaurus on 12.01.2007

Elsa: I bet the entire first week of this will be ice cream sandwiches.

  5. Mr. Sun on 12.01.2007

    On it, Seacrest out.

  6. Erik R. on 12.02.2007

If it hadn’t already been done, Frédérique and I are in the two countries that could possibly make an Earth Sandwich.

Count me in, btw. Oh, the pressure to decide on a good recipe!

  7. Erik R. on 12.02.2007

“first week of this”??? There are more planned?

  8. Ogre on 12.02.2007

I applaud you! An viable third party is just what this country needs. Even knowing nothing at all about the platform of the Sandwich Party, I am certain that it will be far more intelligent and reasoned than those put forth by the Democrats or the Republicans. You have my vote!

    And they don’t.

A particular southern favorite is a follows:

    white bread
    Mayo
    Lettuce leaf
    sliced pineapple

I can remember eating them as a kid and my brother who lives in Alabama said that some of his employees had them for lunch.

I think I will get the ingredients tomorrow when I go to the store.

    Ogre: HA!

Dad: I’ve never had a pineapple sammich. Can you believe it? Oooohhhhhh, you know what would taste good right now? Pineapple upside down cake.

  11. Tom on 12.02.2007

I’m sorry you have not eaten a pineapple sandwich(next visit for sure it will be on the menu). I am concerned that you will start preferring bagels over biscuits since you are in Occupied Virginia. I have to depend on Ogre to keep you on the straight and narrow food path.

  12. tracy on 12.06.2007

I’m gonna’ try to remember to do this. I’ve been a crazy person for two weeks; well, probably much longer, but….
