A week off

04.29.2007

Hello, my people of the interwebs! Guess who’s taking a week off from work? Me. That’s who. Be not alarmed by my lack of posting over the next few days; it is merely an artifact of my temporary relocation* and schedule.

Every single time I see this I read furry instead of fussy, and that, of course, make me wonder about terribly odd and inappropriate things.

Eight hundred tons of manure

04.27.2007

“But could one family of eight possibly have tended to all these animals? 1 That, too, is no problem, says Ken Cunningham, a biologist. Many of the animals would have responded to the lack of light by going into hibernation. Even if animals could have fit and been cared for, could they have been housed in a food-chain-proof way? Easily, says Eddie Atkinson, a reverend and amateur ark-builder: Birds and rodents would have been on the top deck; lions and tigers in one end of the second deck, hippos and rhinos on the other, elephants and giraffes in between. The bottom deck, analysts assert, must have been empty, because according to the zoologists at the San Diego Zoo, during their year aboard the ark the animals would have generated eight hundred tons of manure.”

…you have always wanted my recipe for baba ghanoush, but just didn’t want to ask. Here it is.

Roast one large eggplant for 30 minutes.

Scoop out the entrails (or interior if you prefer that language).

Mash the eggplant with a wooden spoon (or a small child) until it is mush and add small dashes of olive oil and lemon juice, or use bacon grease and forget the olive oil and lemon juice.

If you use bacon grease, drain while still hot into the gray mass of eggplant mush and keep the bacon.

Put the bacon on a slice of bread with lettuce and a slice of fresh ripe tomato.

Cover this with another piece of bread.

Discard unused material.

Make coffee.

No photos. Sorry.

But let me tell you that the first of the four units is built AND IT IS GORGEOUS. Ten-inch poplar, joined corners, etc. Loveliness all around.

Ahhhhhhh.
