I still don’t understand how the rays can be dark.

But maybe I confuse the ray colour with the main sky colour, and the actual rays are the lighter bits.

Hard to tell on a photo. Maybe you can lock the exposure and take a shot of clear sky and one of cloudrays?

I … have never thought about it. I just always assumed those were some sort of shadow effect since where there is light, there will also be shadow.

Perhaps someone who knows can enlighten us.

Well…Madonna sings about rays of light, so I’m assuming the rays must be the lighter parts, right? The darker areas would then be caused by the shadow. Madonna…is there anything she doesn’t know?

I really like the photo, btw.

    The darker parts are invisible.

The rays are caused by sunlight coming through a misty part of air, and the shape of the cloud obsures the sunlight and shapes the rays.

So the rays can’t ever be darker than surrounding sky.

So the dark rays are the actual sky colour.
